Laura Linney's portrayal of vulnerable, yet strong characters has made her one of the top American actors. She was raised by a single, unmarried mother who worked as a nursing assistant. She became interested with theatre in summers spent with her famous father. Her studies in acting were at Brown University, and later in Juilliard School. After just two short years following graduation, she launched her Broadway-based career. The following year she made her debut on TV and film. Over the past few years she has appeared in a variety of films, television productions as well as stage productions. In her long professional career, she's received many awards, which includes two Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards as well as three Academy Award nominations and five Tony Award nominations. Yet, despite the array of awards the theatre is still her primary passion and she is still appearing in stage and screen.
