My son played inside a playpen, while I worked 12-hour days cleaning the floors, and taking down the wallpaper. Ha! It was beginning to be clear, but was far from finished. In order to furnish the house would take a lot of effort both in both time and funds. Also, I had to do my favourite shopping. My three sons and I searched for hidden gems while going to estate sales in order to help ensure that my spending was under control. Our routine was of walking around auctions and garage sales on Sundays and Saturdays as well as purchase various of furniture, both new and old created. My work days were spent in the driveway painting or sanding. It was a bit like the picture below... This was where my passion for restoring furniture began. I continued to restore furniture, even after having furnished our house. There was a market in the area to let me sell my pieces. Eventually, my collection grew to the point that the space I had available was inadequate. More than 1000 people came to my house in one weekend, to shop for everything that was on the ground. Growing Days was founded in my house. In addition to my thriving business, I also grew our family. In some ways, I was able to find the perfect balance between being a mum as well as starting my own business. Growing Days seemed like the best combination. Nora was born in 2013 as our 4th baby. It was a great direction for my business but I also needed some time off. I took a pause from creating vintage furniture and slowed down my pace and stayed at home to take care of the kids. The time was right. After a couple of months, the phone began to ring. Calls came in asking me for help with the interior design and renovations of their home. These people had mostly been to my home during open houses that were held for furniture. Once I had a few months, I took on clients according to my schedule. Soon I had numerous accounts as well as a home renovations business. If you'd have told me that this business that I started would become the basis of a television show on DIY Network I probably would have thought you were crazy. Even now, when I reflect on the situation and think about it, I laugh.
